  • The maximum number of participants on this tour is 12 people.
  • As participants on the tour will be visiting mostly family-run/independent businesses, please be aware that the shops may be closed or alter their hours. If this happens, other nearby shops fitting in with the theme of the tour will be visited.
  • Please note that while this tour is not physically exerting, it is a walking tour. The activity entails walking for all of the three hours.

Visit a variety of specialty shops and get to know their own special history. Make your way to a local sweets shop founded in the Meiji era where you can have a taste of traditional Ningyoyaki cake, a small sponge cake with sweet red bean filling.

Visit places specializing in the traditional rice cracker snack, senbei. Try sweet kawara senbei, which is made from flour instead of rice, and savory rice crackers.

See beautiful tenugui, woven hand towels depicting traditional Japanese scenes, which make a wonderful gift for friends back home (or yourself!).

Your guide will bring you to one of the 8 temples in the Ningyocho area which house gods of longevity and wealth.

Visit a classic stationery shop established in 1912. You'll find several items such as calligraphy brushes and ink, paint, handmade cards and little dolls that tie into Japanese wedding and New Year customs.
